SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Men's Soccer opened their 2026 campaign on Friday (Aug. 21) night, hosting the Ozark Christian College Ambassadors at Coryell Field. On what was a hot night in the Ozarks, both teams added a pair of scores, as the Valor needed a late goal to earn a draw with OCC, 2-2.
The Ambassadors struck first in Friday's matchup, as both teams had recorded just one shot prior to the OCC goal at the 22:15 mark of the first half. Trailing by a goal, Evangel's offense began to generate chances, but could not find an equalizer until the 37th minute, when Caleb Burton was able to corral a missed save by the OCC keeper, scoring to tie the game at 1-1. The Ambassadors were able to respond with a goal just before halftime, as Evangel trailed 2-1.
Evangel battled in the second half, but the Ambassadors defense did not allow another Valor score until late in the second half. Checking in for his first minutes on the evening, Hayes Van Breusegen, Evangel's leading scorer from the previous season, quickly made his mark on the match, scoring on a pass from Juyong Kim, tying the game up at 2-2. The Ambassadors attempted to score a goal in the final moments, putting pressure on Evangel's defense, but the Valor held firm, earning a draw in head coach Samuel Winning's first game at the helm, 2-2, in full time.
