SALINA, Kan. – Valor Softball took on the #2-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles on Thursday (Apr. 30) afternoon, needing a win to advance to the KCAC Conference Tournament Championship.
After previously falling to the Eagles earlier in the season, Maddy Meierer made sure to avenge her previous loss, shutting out the Eagles behind a strong offensive performance from EU, taking a 8-0 run-rule win over Oklahoma Wesleyan.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Kenna Mayfield opened Thursday's contest with a triple, quickly scoring on a Naomi Perkins single to give EU a 1-0 lead. Perkins would come around and score after a Natalie Morgan single and Lauren Dill fielders choice to give EU a 2-0 lead.

Neither team scored in the second or third innings, but the Valor offense exploded in the fourth inning of play. Camryn Casey ripped a solo home run to left field to open the inning, followed by a Karli Facklam double and a Mayfield sacrifice fly to score Facklam, making it a 4-0 lead. Perkins was hit by a pitch, followed by a walk from Morgan, bringing up Audrey Carlton who hit a blast to left field, giving EU a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Evangel walked off the run-rule victory in the fifth inning, as Camryn Casey singled, stole second, and scored on a Danielle Cutbirth single up the middle with two outs, giving EU a 8-0 win as Meierer and the EU defense held OKWU scoreless on Thursday.
UP NEXT
Evangel Softball will take on the #5-seeded Friends Falcons on Friday (May 1) afternoon at noon in Salina, for the KCAC Conference Tournament Championship game. Should the Valor lose the first contest, both teams will play in a winner-take-all matchup just 30 minutes after game one to determine a champion.
