Valor Baseball Drops Pair to Sterling at Home

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After earning a walk-off win on Thursday afternoon to open their series, Evangel Baseball concluded their matchup with Sterling on Friday (Apr. 3) afternoon, looking to take the series with a win in the doubleheader.

Evangel battled on Friday and came up just short of the win in game two, 9-8, and could only plate one run in the final game of the series, falling 7-1, and dropping the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Evan Jon-Baptiste and Quentin Edwards both hit home runs in the bottom of the first inning to give EU a 2-0 lead.

  • Sterling scored a run in both the second and third, as well as a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead over EU.

  • In the bottom of the fifth, Heath Perry doubled and scored on a Mason Reilly single to draw within a run of Sterling's lead, 4-3.

  • Three Warriors runs came across the plate in the top of the sixth to extend Sterling's lead to 7-3.

  • In the bottom of the sixth, Edwards hit his second solo shot of the day, making it a 7-4 ballgame.

  • The Warriors matched Evangel's run in the top of the seventh to lead 8-4.

  • Evangel added a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, as Reilly walked, scoring on a Cade Beshore single, while Beshore came across to score on a Justus Cherrico single, making it a 8-6 deficit.

  • Sterling added another run in the top of the eighth to lead 9-6.

  • In the bottom of the ninth, Beshore hit a single, scoring on Edwards' third home run of the game, drawing EU within a run of the lead with no outs, 9-8. H. Perry was able to get on base after working a walk with two outs, but could not come across to score, as the Valor fell just short of the win, 9-8.

  • Sterling scored six runs over the first five innings of play in the finale, as EU trailed 6-0.

  • Beshore ripped a home run to left field to score Evangel's lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, as the Valor fell 7-1.

NOTABLE

  • Quentin Edwards hit three home runs in game two, tying the school record for home runs in a single game, as well as the school record for home runs in a single season.
