KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Evangel Baseball returned to action on Tuesday (Apr. 7) afternoon, taking on the Avila Eagles in the series finale on the road.
Evangel and Avila needed extra innings to determine a winner on Tuesday, with a three-run 12th inning proving to be the difference for the Valor, resulting in a 6-3 win and sweep of the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Avila took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning over Evangel.

The Valor tied the game up in the top of the third, as Gannon Miller singled, and TJ Newman entered to run. Newman stole both second and third base, scoring on a Drew Dobberstein sacrifice, 1-1.

The Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third.

Evangel responded in the top of the fourth, taking a 3-2 lead. Nate Nunes and Cade Beshore both singled, with Nunes scoring on an error, and a Justus Cherrico sacrifice fly scoring Beshore.

Evangel would hold the Eagles scoreless in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but Avila scored to tie the game in the eighth inning, 3-3.

Both defenses held each team scoreless until the top of the 12th, when the Valor scored a trio of runs. Evan Jno-Baptiste, Nunes, and Beshore all hit singles, with Baptiste scoring on Cade's base hit. A Quentin Edwards double scored Nunes and Beshore to make it a 6-3 EU lead.

Mason Reilly and the Valor defense shut down Avila in the bottom of the 12th, taking a win and moving back to .500 on the season.

Mason Reilly earned the win on Tuesday, his third of the season, striking out five and not allowing a single hit over 4.1 innings of work.

Quentin Edwards led EU at the plate, going 2-3 with a pair of RBIs and three walks.
