SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Softball competed in their final matchups in Springfield on Saturday (Apr. 18) afternoon, taking on the Bethel College Threshers.

Looking to put an end to five consecutive splits and earn a sweep, the Valor did just that, using a 8-0 run-rule win in game one and an even more convincing 12-0 win in five innings of play in game two.

NOTABLE

  • Maddy Meierer earned the win in game one, striking out four batters and earning her 20th win of the season.

  • Madi Bentley earned the win in the circle for game two, her 14th of the season.

  • Evangel recorded 29 hits on Saturday, compared to Bethel's eight.

  • Lauren Dill hit a pair of triples in game one's victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Evangel jumped on Bethel early, as Naomi Perkins singled, Natalie Morgan walked, and Audrey Carlton singled to load the bases. A Lauren Dill triple cleared the bases and a Kaylee Dolores single scored Dill, giving EU a 4-0 lead.

  • In the bottom of the second, Kenna Mayfield doubled and scored on a Morgan single up the middle, making it a 5-0 game.

  • Dill opened the bottom of the third with another triple, scoring on a Camryn Casey single up the middle.

  • In the bottom of the fourth, Danielle Cutbirth ripped a double to center field, scoring on a Morgan single to center field, making it a 7-0 EU advantage.

  • In the bottom of the sixth, the Valor secured the run-rule victory, as Perkins singled and scored on a Carlton double to center field, 8-0.

  • Evangel opened game two by scoring a pair of runs. Perkins singled, followed by a Morgan walk, with both runners scoring on a Dill single.

  • The Valor offense exploded in the second inning, scoring nine runs. After Cutbirth worked a walk, Mayfield ripped a triple to score the right fielder. A Perkins single scored Mayfield, while Morgan worked a walk and Carlton hit a single to score Naomi. A Dolores single scored Morgan, while back-to-back walks from Karli Facklam and Cutbirth loaded the bases and scored Carlton. Another Mayfield single scored Facklam and Dolores, while Morgan closed scoring with a single to score Mayfield and Cutbirth, 11-0.

  • Evangel closed scoring in the bottom of the fourth, as Cutbirth singled and scored on a Perkins single.
