Meierer Throws No-Hitter as Valor Softball Sweeps Southwestern

WINFIELD, Kan. – Valor Softball hit the road on Tuesday (Apr. 21) afternoon to conclude their 2026 regular season, taking on the Southwestern College Moundbuilders.

The Valor took care of business on Tuesday, as Maddy Meierer threw her first no-hitter of the season and Madi Bentley shut out the Moundbuilders in game two, resulting in a pair of run-rule wins, 10-0 and 8-0.

NOTABLE

  • Maddy Meierer earned the win in game one, striking out five batters in her near perfect game performance.

  • Madi Bentley earned the win in the circle for game two, her 15th of the season.

  • Kenna Mayfield led EU at the plate, going 6-7 in her final regular season games of her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kenna Mayfield singled and scored on a Naomi Perkins single to open Tuesday's first matchup, followed by walks from Audrey Carlton and Camryn Casey to load the bases. A Kaylee Dolores single scored both Perkins and Carlton, while Karli Facklam singled to score Casey, giving EU a 4-0 lead.

  • In the top of the second, Mayfield again singled, and again scored on a Perkins single. Natalie Morgan singled and scored on a Lauren Dill groundout in the inning to give EU a 6-0 lead.

  • Dolores singled to open the third inning, scoring on a Facklam triple, while Mayfield doubled to score Facklam, making it a 8-0 ballgame.

  • Evangel put the icing in the cake in the top of the fifth inning, as Danielle Cutbirth singled and scored on a Mayfield triple, followed by Mayfield scoring on a Perkins single.

  • An error in the fifth inning allowed Southwestern to earn their lone base runner of the contest, as EU took a no-hit win over Southwestern, 10-0.

  • In the top of the first of game two, Mayfield singled, scoring on a Morgan ground out to give EU an early lead.

  • Evangel added four runs in the top of the third, as Perkins walked, Morgan reached on an error, Carlton singled, and Hayleigh Shubert walked with the bases loaded to score Perkins. Another error allowed Morgan to score, but a Dolores single scored Carlton and Shubert, giving EU a 5-0 lead.

  • Mayfield hit her second triple of the day in the top of the fifth, scoring on a sacrifice fly from Cutbirth.

  • The Valor closed scoring in the top of the sixth inning, as Carlton singled and scored on a Dolores ground out, as well as Casey scoring on a Alaura Padgett single in the inning.

  • Madi Bentley and Evangel's defense kept the Moundbuilders off the scoreboard, taking a 8-0 win in six innings of play to sweep Southwestern.

UP NEXT

Evangel Softball will await for the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles to conclude their regular season to determine whether they will be the #1 or #2 seed in the upcoming KCAC conference tournament. The Valor will take the field again in Salina, Kansas, on April 29th at a time to be announced.
