Valor Baseball Routs Southwestern on Saturday, 15-5

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After inclement weather moved Evangel's KCAC series to Springfield with Southwestern, the Valor took on the Moundbuilders on Saturday for a single nine-inning matchup.

Evangel got to work early taking care of business on Saturday, taking a 15-5 win over Southwestern, with seven runs coming in the first two innings of play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Evan Jno-Baptiste doubled to open Saturday's game, scoring on a Nate Nunes single. Cade Beshore was hit by a pitch and a Justus Cherrico single scored Nunes and Beshore, giving EU a 3-0 lead.

  • In the second inning, Nunes singled and Beshore was hit by a pitch before Quentin Edwards doubled, scoring Beshore and Nunes. Edwards scored on a Kannon Perry single before a bases loaded walk from Cole Leonhart scored K. Perry, giving EU a 7-0 lead.

  • Southwestern responded in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five runs to trail 7-5 against EU.

  • Cherrico singled and Heath Perry was hit by a pitch, both scoring on a Baptiste double to make it a 9-5 Evangel advantage.

  • Evangel added an additional run in the top of the fifth, as Cherrico doubled to score K. Perry, who had singled earlier to get on base.

  • A fielders choice in the seventh inning scored Edwards, who walked to get on base, 11-5.

  • In the eighth, Baptiste singled, scoring on a Beshore single, making it a 12-5 ballgame.

  • Evangel added three runs in the ninth inning to solidify the 15-5 win, as Cherrico, H. Perry, and Leonhart all scored on singles from Baptiste and Nunes.

NOTABLE

  • Evan Jno-Baptiste led EU at the plate, going 4-7 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

  • Mason Reilly allowed just one hit over 6.2 innings pitched, earning a win in relief for Evangel, the first of his collegiate career.

NEXT UP

Evangel Baseball returns to action tomorrow (Mar. 8) afternoon, taking on Southwestern for a doubleheader at 12:30 p.m. in Springfield.
