SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Baseball hosted the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans on Tuesday (Mar. 24) afternoon for a non-conference matchup, looking to earn their 17th win of the season.

Evangel used a nine run first inning to fuel their way to a run rule win over the Trojans, 14-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After holding the Trojans scoreless in the top of the first inning, Evangel's offense exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the first. Evan Jno-Baptiste worked a walk, followed by a Nate Nunes single. Cade Beshore recorded a hit to score Baptiste, while a Quentin Edwards single scored Nunes. Justus Cherrico was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Kannon Perry singled to score both Beshore and Edwards. A Heath Perry single scored Cherrico, while TJ Newman, who was running for K. Perry, scored on a Baptiste single. H. Perry stole home after Baptiste forced the Trojans catcher into a throw at second, before Beshore closed out the inning but ripping a single through the right side to score Baptiste and Nunes, giving EU their 9-0 lead.

  • Hannibal-LaGrange added a run in the top of the second to make it a 9-1 ballgame.

  • Cherrico doubled in the second inning and scored on a K. Perry sacrifice fly, giving EU a 10-1 lead.

  • The Trojans added a pair of runs in the top of the third to trail 10-3.

  • Nunes was hit by a pitch and Beshore walked, both scoring on a Edwards home run to left center field to extend Evangel's lead to 13-3.

  • Edwards recorded his second home run of the day in the fourth inning, giving the Valor a 14-3 lead.

  • Hannibal-LaGrange would add one final run in the sixth inning, but could not escape the run-rule, as the Valor closed out the game in seven innings, 14-4.

NOTABLE

  • Cade Beshore and Quentin Edwards both led Evangel at the plate on Tuesday, as Beshore went 3-4 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored, while Edwards went 3-5 with five RBIs and three runs.

  • Mason Reilly earned the win on the mound, moving to 2-1 on the season, finishing with six strikeouts and just one run allowed over three innings.
