OTTAWA, Kan. – Valor Softball hit the road on Tuesday (Mar. 24) afternoon, taking on the Ottawa Braves, who were receiving votes in the previous NAIA Top 25 Poll, looking to earn a pair of wins.
The Valor took a narrow 3-2 win in game one, before dominating game two, holding the Braves to just one run in a 6-1 win and sweep of Ottawa. With the second win, Evangel head coach Jay Halbrook recorded his 300th career win.

Maddy Meierer earned the win against Ottawa, striking out five batters and earning her 14th win of the season.

Fresh off her pitcher of the week honor, Madi Bentley earned her ninth win of the season, holding Ottawa to just one run.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Ottawa took an early 2-0 lead in game one against Evangel, scoring a pair in the bottom of the first inning.

Evangel responded in the top of the second by tying the game up at 2-2. Lauren Dill singled, followed by Karli Facklam reaching on an error. Kenna Mayfield came up clutch with two outs, hitting a single to right center field to score both runners, tying the game.

In the bottom of the third, Camryn Casey singled and scored on a Audrey Carlton single, giving the Valor a 3-2 lead over Ottawa.

Maddy Meierer and the Valor defense held Ottawa scoreless to close out the game, taking a 3-2 win in game one.

Evangel scored five runs in the top of the second inning of game two, as Dill worked a walk, followed by a Carlton single and Facklam reaching on an error to load the bases. What would have been a sacrifice bunt for Chloe Krans resulted in Evangel scoring a trio of runs, as the Valor took advantage of a ball thrown wild to make it a 3-0 ballgame. Mayfield tripled to score Krans, while Naomi Perkins hit a single to score Mayfield, giving EU a 5-0 lead.

Ottawa added a run in the bottom of the fourth, before Evangel responded in the top of the fifth, using a sacrifice fly from Krans to score Dill, giving the Valor a 6-1 lead.

Madi Bentley helped guide Evangel to the win on Tuesday, sweeping the Braves, 6-1.
