The Valor took a narrow 3-2 win in game one, before dominating game two, holding the Braves to just one run in a 6-1 win and sweep of Ottawa. With the second win, Evangel head coach Jay Halbrook recorded his 300th career win.

NOTABLE

  • Maddy Meierer earned the win against Ottawa, striking out five batters and earning her 14th win of the season.

  • Fresh off her pitcher of the week honor, Madi Bentley earned her ninth win of the season, holding Ottawa to just one run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ottawa took an early 2-0 lead in game one against Evangel, scoring a pair in the bottom of the first inning.

  • Evangel responded in the top of the second by tying the game up at 2-2. Lauren Dill singled, followed by Karli Facklam reaching on an error. Kenna Mayfield came up clutch with two outs, hitting a single to right center field to score both runners, tying the game.

  • In the bottom of the third, Camryn Casey singled and scored on a Audrey Carlton single, giving the Valor a 3-2 lead over Ottawa.

  • Maddy Meierer and the Valor defense held Ottawa scoreless to close out the game, taking a 3-2 win in game one.

  • Evangel scored five runs in the top of the second inning of game two, as Dill worked a walk, followed by a Carlton single and Facklam reaching on an error to load the bases. What would have been a sacrifice bunt for Chloe Krans resulted in Evangel scoring a trio of runs, as the Valor took advantage of a ball thrown wild to make it a 3-0 ballgame. Mayfield tripled to score Krans, while Naomi Perkins hit a single to score Mayfield, giving EU a 5-0 lead.

  • Ottawa added a run in the bottom of the fourth, before Evangel responded in the top of the fifth, using a sacrifice fly from Krans to score Dill, giving the Valor a 6-1 lead.

  • Madi Bentley helped guide Evangel to the win on Tuesday, sweeping the Braves, 6-1.
