Valor Baseball Takes Series with Tabor on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Baseball concluded their series with the Tabor College Bluejays on Saturday (Mar. 21) afternoon, aiming to take their fourth consecutive series win (defeated Southwestern, York, and Avila), by earning at least one win on Saturday.

Evangel rallied in the first game of the day, taking a 10-8 win over the Bluejays, before falling 10-5 in the finale to remain .500 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tabor took an early 1-0 lead over the Valor in Saturday's first contest.

  • Nate Nunes was hit by a pitch, coming around to score on a Justus Cherrico single to tie the game up at 1-1.

  • Tabor re-took the lead in the top of the second, 3-1.

  • Dylan Michaelson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second to force EU to trail by just one run, 3-2.

  • In the bottom of the third, Nunes doubled to open the inning, followed by a Cade Beshore single, sacrifice fly from Quentin Edwards to score Nunes, and a Cherrico home run to center field to give EU a 5-3 lead.

  • The Bluejays added a run in the top of the fourth to trail by just one run, 5-4.

  • In the bottom of the fourth, Michaelson singled, scoring on a Evan Jno-Baptiste home run to add to the EU lead, 7-4.

  • Tabor added another pair of runs to make it a 7-6 ballgame.

  • In the top of the seventh, the Bluejays tied the game up, and captured a 8-7 lead in the top of the eighth.

  • Michaelson worked a walk with one out in the bottom of the eighth, before Baptiste hit a single to move Michaelson to second with two outs. Nunes worked a walk to load the bases before Beshore came up clutch for the Valor, ripping a double to right center field to clear the bases, giving EU a 10-8 lead.

  • TJ Newman shut down the Bluejay bats, earning the 10-8 win and taking the series after winning on Friday.

  • Tabor scored seven combined runs in the first two innings of play to take a 7-0 lead over EU in the finale.

  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Valor added a trio of runs. Cherrico walked, followed by singles from Michaelson and Gannon Miller to load the bases. A Heath Perry double scored Cherrico and Michaelson, while Newman scored on a Nunes sacrifice fly, after running for the catcher Miller, making it a 7-3 deficit.

  • Tabor added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning, taking a six run lead, 9-3.

  • H. Perry singled and scored on a Nunes single, adding a run in the bottom of the sixth, while Edwards singled and scored on a Miller single in the bottom of the seventh, closing out Evangel's 10-5 loss in the finale.
