Evangel Baseball Scores 12 Runs, Downs Tabor in Series Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Baseball played host to the Tabor College Bluejays on Friday (Mar. 20) afternoon, opening a three game series with the KCAC foe, looking to continue their winning ways.

The Valor would earn their eighth win over the last 10 games, taking a 12-5 win over the Bluejays to open the series on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Neither team scored in the first inning of play on Friday, but the Valor scored in the bottom of the second as Quentin Edwards singled, scoring on a Kai Strasser single to left field.
  • Tabor took the lead in the top of the third, taking a 2-1 lead over Evangel.
  • In the bottom of the third, Evan Jno-Baptiste walked, followed by a double from Nate Nunes and single from Cade Beshore to score Baptiste, tying the game up at 2-2. Edwards followed up Beshore's at-bat with a home run to left field, giving the Valor a 5-2 lead.
  • In the top of the fifth, Tabor added a run to draw within two runs of EU's lead, 5-3.
  • Beshore walked and scored on a Justus Cherrico single, as Edwards scored in the inning as well following his single and a ground out to take a 7-3 lead.
  • Tabor scored a run in the top of the sixth and in the top of the seventh to make it a 7-5 Evangel advantage.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Edwards hit his second home run of the afternoon to give the Valor a 8-5 lead.
  • Evangel broke open the game in the bottom of the eighth, as Kannon Perry singled, Strasser walked, and Landon Taylor was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A Baptiste hit by pitch scored TJ Newman, who was running for Perry, while a wild pitch scored Strasser. A sacrifice bunt from Beshore scored Drew Dobberstein, who was running for Taylor, and an error allowed Baptiste to score, solidifying Evangel's 12-5 win over Tabor, after Mason Reilly closed the door for EU.

NOTABLE

  • Quentin Edwards went 4-5 from the plate on Friday, scoring four runs and driving in four RBIs.
  • Isaac Daley earned his third win of the season on Friday while Mason Reilly recorded his third save,
