SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Baseball returned home on Tuesday (Mar. 17) afternoon, playing host to former HAAC foe, Avila.
After taking game one of the series two weeks ago on the road, Evangel used consistent hitting, scoring 16 runs in a 16-9 win over the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Evan Jno-Baptiste singled, stole second, and scored on a Nate Nunes single to give EU an early 1-0 lead. Cade Beshore hit a single, with Nunes scoring on a passed ball. Quentin Edwards worked a walk and a Justus Cherrico double cleared the bases, giving the Valor a 4-0 lead. Cherrico would come around to score on a Dylan Michaelson sacrifice fly to give EU a 5-0 lead.

Beshore reached on a fielder's choice and Edwards walked in the bottom of the second inning, both scoring on a Cherrico home run to right field, making the Valor lead 8-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Evangel added another run, as Kannon Perry walked with the bases loaded to score Beshore, who had singled to get on base.

Avila fought back after EU took a 9-0 lead, scoring six runs in the top of the fifth to trail by three runs, 9-6.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Valor answered Avila's runs with four of their own, as Edwards singled and scored on a Cherrico single, followed by Cherrico and Mason Reilly scoring on a Dylan Michaelson single. A Baptiste sacrifice fly scored Braiden Whitaker, who was running for the catcher, Perry, making it a 13-6 advantage.

Avila scored three additional runs in the top of the seventh to trail 13-9.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Nunes hit a solo home run, followed by a Beshore single and Edwards home run to left center field, solidifying EU's 16-9 win on Tuesday.
NOTABLE

Justus Cherrico went a perfect 3-3 from the plate on Tuesday, scoring three runs, while driving in six RBIs.

TJ Newman earned his second win of the season, pitching 4.2 innings in relief while striking out seven batters and allowing just four hits.
