POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Evangel Baseball returned to action on Tuesday (Feb. 3) afternoon, taking on their longtime rival, College of the Ozarks, in doubleheader non-conference action.
The Valor pitching staff had a great day, allowing just two combined runs on Tuesday, while the offense scored four in game one and three in game two, taking a sweep of the Bobcats on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Nathan Nunes singled and Heath Perry walked to put a pair of runners on in the first inning before Quentin Edwards ripped a double to right field, scoring Nunes and Perry on a misplay by the outfielder, 2-0.
-
Neither team scored again until the fourth inning, as Matthew Olson singled, stole second base, and scored on a Evan Jno-Baptiste single to center field, giving the Valor a 3-0 lead.
-
Evangel capped scoring in the sixth inning by scoring Olson once again, this time on a play at the plate on a sacrifice bunt from Mason Reilly, making it a 4-0 ballgame.
-
C of O hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, but it was too little, too late for the Bobcats, as EU took a 4-1 win in game one.
-
Similar to game one, the Valor scored a pair of runs to open game two, as Baptiste singled, followed by a Nunes walk. A sacrifice bunt that the C of O catcher threw wide of first allowed Baptiste to score, while a Edwards sacrifice fly to left field scored Nunes.
-
The Bobcats added a run in the bottom of the fifth to draw within a run of Evangel's lead, 2-1.
-
Dylan Michaelson opened the sixth inning by doubling and stealing third base, before Cole Leonhart recorded a pinch hit single to left field, scoring Michaelson and extending EU's lead to 3-1.
-
The Evangel bullpen kept C of O off the scoreboard in the final inning of play, solidifying the sweep for EU, 3-1.
