SHAWNEE, Okla. – Valor Softball hit the road on Friday (Feb. 20) afternoon, taking part in the NAIASB Invitational, one of the top tournaments in the nation.
In game one, the Valor took on 8th-ranked Central Methodist Eagles, looking to take an upset win. Despite scoring first against CMU, the Valor were unable to overcome three consecutive Eagle runs, falling in a tightly contested battle, 3-2. In game two, Evangel took on Bellevue and was able to fend off the Bruins who used a late charge to come within two runs of Evangel's lead, 10-8.

Madi Bentley earned the win over Bellevue, striking out six batters in the win.

Kenna Mayfield led Evangel, going 4-7 and scoring three runs on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Kenna Mayfield doubled to open the matchup against #8 Central Methodist, coming around to score on a Natalie Morgan single to give EU a 1-0 lead.

Neither team did much offensively in the 2nd and 3rd innings, but the Eagles tied the game up at 1-1 in the fourth.

CMU scored a run in the sixth and seventh, extending their lead to a pair of runs, 3-1, over Evangel.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, trailing 3-1, Naomi Perkins hit a double, scoring on a Audrey Carlton double to make it a 3-2 game with just one out. Camryn Casey and Karli Facklam both worked walks to load the bases with a pair of outs, but the Valor were unable to rally, falling just short of the upset, 3-2.

Mayfield walked, stole second, and scored on a Morgan groundout to give EU an early 1-0 lead over Bellevue in game two.

In the top of the third inning, Evangel scored three runs, as Danielle Cutbirth singled, scoring on another Morgan base hit, before Carlton doubled to score Naomi Perkins and Cutbirth, 4-0.

In the top of the fifth, Carlton hit a home run, followed by a Hayleigh Shubert double, who scored Camryn Casey, who had also doubled to get on base, 6-0.

Evangel added another pair of runs in the top of the 6th, as Cutbirth and Mayfield singled, both scoring on ground out from Morgan and Carlton.

In the bottom of the sixth, Bellevue scored four runs to draw closer to EU on the scoreboard, 8-4.

The Valor responded by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Shubert singled and Karla Ochoa entered to run. Kaylee Dolores also singled, with Ochoa scoring on a Cutbirth sacrifice fly and Dolores scoring on a Mayfield single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bellevue put pressure on Evangel, scoring four runs to trail 10-8, with a pair of runners in scoring position. The Valor were able to get out of trouble, forcing a groundout to take a 10-8 win over the Bruins on Friday.
