SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel WBB hosted the Bethany College Swedes on Saturday (Feb. 14) afternoon, looking to lock up the #1 seed and the KCAC title in their home finale. The Valor out-scored Bethany in every quarter, as three seniors eclipsed the 20-point mark in Saturday's 94-68 win.
A pair of Ali Kamies three pointers and a jumper from Carson Dillard gave EU a 8-2 lead with 6:34 remaining in the first quarter. Cassidy Hambelton nailed a three pointer, while Kamies recorded an old-fashioned three point play to extend EU's lead to 14-3. A pair of baskets from Alyssa McCarty added to Evangel's total, as the Valor led 24-13 at the end of the first quarter.
A Brooklyn Kearbey basket, followed by a pair of free throw makes from Heaven Shockley gave EU a 15-point lead, 28-13, to open the second quarter. The trio of Kamies, Dillard, and Hambelton continued to add points to EU's total in the quarter, but a late basket from Evin Montgomery gave EU a 17-point lead, 44-27. Bethany closed the quarter out with a bucket, as the Valor led 44-29 at the halftime break.
Bethany drew within seven points of Evangel's lead in the third quarter, 44-37, but Hambelton nailed a three pointer to close out the Bethany run, re-taking a 10-point lead. Three pointers from Kearbey and Dillard gave EU their largest lead of the evening, 67-48, with 1:56 remaining in the period. A Hambelton layup closed out the third quarter, giving EU a 69-50 lead.
Evangel out-scored Bethany, 25-18, in the final period of play, taking as large as a 30-point lead in the quarter, as Hambelton hit a three pointer and layup late to help solidify Evangel's win, 94-68, on Saturday.
