SALINA, Kan. – Evangel Baseball traveled to Salina on Friday (Feb. 13) afternoon, taking on the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes in their 2026 KCAC opener.
Kansas Wesleyan scored early in game one, as the Valor were unable to recover, falling 7-2 in game one. In game two, Evangel took an early 1-0 lead, but were unable to generate any additional offense, falling 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel held Kansas Wesleyan scoreless through the first inning, but allowed five runs over the second and third innings to trail 5-0.

In the top of the fourth, Landon Taylor hit a ground-rule double down the right field line, scoring on a Cade Beshore single up the middle to make the deficit just four runs, 5-1.

The Coyotes added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to re-take a five run lead, 6-1.

Evangel added a run in the top of the eighth inning, as Justus Cherrico doubled and scored on a Quentin Edwards single, trailing by four runs again, 6-2.

Kansas Wesleyan scored in the bottom of the eighth to cap scoring in game one, as the Coyotes were victorious, 7-2.

Peyton Gayer singled to open game two, coming around to score on an error and a Kannon Perry sacrifice fly, taking a 1-0 lead.

The Coyotes took advantage of an EU miscue, scoring a pair of unearned runs to lead the Valor, 2-1.

Evangel could not generate any additional run scoring offense, but did ultimately out-hit Kansas Wesleyan in game two, as KWU came away with a 3-1 win in game two.
NOTABLE

Quentin Edwards led Evangel at the plate on Friday, going 5-7 with an RBI from the plate.

Riley Fuller pitched well in game two, striking out five batters and allowing his first earned run of the season in the loss.

Evangel out-hit Kansas Wesleyan, 17-14, on Friday, but were out-scored, 10-3.
