SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Women's Soccer played host to the Friends Falcons on Wednesday, looking to take a win against a tough KCAC opponent. The Valor battled, but could not overcome two first half goals, falling 3-0 on Wednesday.
Makayla Myers recorded Evangel's first shot on goal at the 18:10 mark of the first half, but the Falcons quickly responded, scoring a goal to take a 1-0 lead over EU at the 20:20 mark of the contest. The Valor defense continued to battle in the first half, as the offense was unable to generate much momentum. At the 39:04 mark of the first half, Friends extended their lead, taking a 2-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Lili Thiessen recorded Evangel's lone shot on goal in the second half, as the Falcons controlled pace of play in their attacking half for most of the period. The Valor defense fought to attempt to keep the Falcons from adding to their lead, but late in the contest, Friends recorded their third and final goal of the game, forcing EU to fall, 3-0.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTABLE
"The challenge of this game is we played at a much higher level and did not get the result. We created several very good chances in the first half but were not able to convert those," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "We took a risk by pressing harder and pushing more numbers forward chasing a goal. I like how we played and we just need to focus forward on these three final regular season matches."
