CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Valor Women's Soccer traveled to Arkansas on Wednesday (Sept. 3) evening, taking on NCAA D-III University of the Ozarks, looking to add another win to their season total. Evangel would score early in the game, taking a lead they did not relinquish in a 4-0 victory.
McKenzie Calhoun and Amaura Austell both registered shot attempts for Evangel in the first 15 minutes of Wednesday's game, putting pressure on the Eagles defense. Austell, who received KCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, put the first goal of the game on the board at the 17:42 mark, giving the Valor a 1-0 lead. Rylie Kidman added a goal of her own on a pass from Faith Joe just 16 minutes later, scoring in the lower left corner to extend the lead to 2-0.
Leading 2-0, the Valor offense did not let up, as McKenzie Calhoun scored her second goal of the season, on a pass from Austell, to push Evangel out to a 3-0 lead. Evangel's defense kept the Eagles offense off balance the entire night, as Rylee Clapp recorded several saves to keep U of O off the scoreboard. Kennason Suchy scored Evangel's final goal of the night, giving EU a 4-0 lead on a pass from Makayla Myers, solidifying the 4-0 victory.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTABLE
"What a brilliant win this evening. We were a bit slow at the start but once we settled in, we played incredible in every facet of the game. Our team defense was amazing and basically stifled the attack. Rylee Clapp was awesome in goal to earn her first clean sheet of the season," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "Four different players finding the back of the goal was truly special. Each time these ladies take to the field they continue to get better. This was a great team win!"Â
