SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Women's Soccer concluded their homestand on Saturday (Sept. 27) afternoon, hosting the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes in a KCAC conference matchup. Despite holding Kansas Wesleyan scoreless in the second half, the Coyotes would net a pair of goals in the opening period, as EU fell, 2-0.
Evangel's defense and Rylee Clapp were able to hold the Coyotes off the scoreboard for the first 30 minutes of play, as Clapp recorded four saves in goal. Kansas Wesleyan would score at the 31:59 mark of the first half to take a 1-0 lead, as EU was able to record just a pair of shots before the Coyotes score. Naia Boudreau recorded Evangel's lone shot on goal in the first half, but KWU's goalkeeper earned a save to keep EU off the board. Kansas Wesleyan added a score in the final two minutes of play to extend their lead to 2-0 at the halftime break.
The Evangel offense had a much stronger offensive pace in the second half, as Amaura Austell, Emma Budimlya, and Faith Joe all recorded shots on goal in the first 17 minutes of play. Despite putting shots on goal, the Coyotes outshot EU 19-9 in the entirety of play on Saturday, as the Valor could not break through on the scoreboard, falling 2-0 in fulltime.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTABLE
"Kansas Wesleyan was a very sound team - they moved the ball well. While we played a good game overall and definitely a lot better in the second half, we challenged ourselves with our connections and maintaining possession that put us into a defensive posture more than I would prefer," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "I thought Rylee Clapp had another great performance in goal and Emma Budimlya played well today. Cleaning up our touch and keeping possession will be a focus for us throughout this week as we prepare for Bethany and for the remainder of our conference schedule."Â
