SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Women's Soccer returned home on Saturday (Sept. 20) afternoon, opening a three-game homestand by taking on the McPherson College Bulldogs. Looking to bounce back after a pair of tough games against nationally ranked squads, Evangel would earn the win at home, 1-0.
The Evangel offense put forth several shots that went just wide of the mark to open Saturday, keeping the game scoreless. At the 19:16 mark, the Valor played a ball through that Makayla Myers was able to kick back into play, right at the feet of Emma Budimlya to push Evangel ahead, 1-0. The Bulldogs responded with their first shot of the game, but their attempt went high of the goal and the Valor took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Valor once again were able to put several shots up against the McPherson defense, but EU could not break through and extend their lead. McPherson's last strong attempt came in the 72nd minute, but Rylee Clapp stifled the shot, earning a save and keeping the Bulldogs off the scoreboard. Neither team could add a score to close out the game, as EU's defense helped push the Valor to a 1-0 win at home.

QUOTABLE
"It was so good to be back home for a match on campus. We did such a good job was a group defending today. Our back line was so organized and our midfield did a great job in the space directly above them. Collectively, their work stifled any attack by McPherson," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "The goal we scored by Emma Budimlya was absolutely brilliant. What an awesome team win today. I'm proud of the work of each of our ladies today!"Â
