BRANSON, Mo. – Valor Softball concluded the Grand Slam classic in Branson, Mo., on Saturday (Mar. 8) afternoon, looking to take another sweep and finish 4-0 in their final Branson RecPlex tournament.
15 hits from the Valor including a 4-4 day from Riley Johannes with five RBIs against Mount Marty helped EU take a 8-0 run rule win in six innings. The Valor had to fight and comeback against former conference foe, Culver-Stockton, in their final game of the weekend, taking a 5-4 win in extras to move their season record to 14-4.
NOTABLE

Maddy Meierer earned both wins in the circle on Saturday, moving to 8-1 on the season and lowering her ERA to 0.40.

Riley Joahnnes went 5-7 from the plate with five RBIs on Saturday.

Karlie Romines also had a strong day of offense, going 4-6 from the plate with six RBIs and a run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel took an early 2-0 lead in game one against Mount Marty as Kenna Mayfield scored on a Karlie Romines sacrifice fly and Naomi Perkins, who doubled to get on base, scored on a Riley Johannes single.

Ellie Facklam singled and scored on a single from Johannes to extend EU's lead to 3-0 in the third inning.

In the top of the fourth, both Mayfield and E. Facklam singled and scored on a Romines triple, as Karlie came around to score on another Johannes single to give EU a 6-0 lead.

Maddy Meierer kept Mount Marty off the scoreboard as Perkins worked a walk and E. Facklam singled, both scoring on Johannes fourth single of the day, solidifying EU's 8-0 win against MMU.

Culver-Stockton scored a pair of runs in the top of the first to take an early 2-0 lead.

Mayfield singled and Perkins walked to get on base, both scoring to tie the game at 2-2 on a Romines double.

In the top of the fourth, Culver-Stockton hit a two run home run to give the Wildcats a 4-2 lead over EU.

In the bottom of the fifth, Evangel was able to respond, again tying the game up at 4-4. After Mayfield got on base with a fielders choice, a E. Facklam single scored Mayfield, while an overthrow from the catcher on a stolen base attempt allowed Perkins to score.

Meierer came in to pitch in the eighth inning against Culver-Stockton and was able to strand the extra runner, earning a pair of strikeouts and a ground out to set EU up for a walk off opportunity.

An E. Facklam ground out advanced Perkins who was placed on second with the ITB, bringing up Romines who slapped the ball over the third baseman's head, scoring Perkins and giving EU a 5-4 walk off victory.

Evangel will open conference play on Tuesday (Mar. 11) afternoon, hosting the Southwestern College Moundbuilders for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
