BRANSON, Mo. – Valor Softball opened their final Branson RecPlex tournament of the regular season on Friday (Mar. 7) afternoon, taking on the Doane Tigers and Hastings Broncos on a beautiful, windy Friday.
A 14-hit performance against Doane helped Evangel take an early lead they held to the finish, 8-3 in game one, while the Valor took a shutout 3-0 win against Hastings behind a strong performance from Maddy Meierer in game two.
NOTABLE

Madi Bentley earned her fourh win of the season in game one, moving to 4-1, while Sarah Wilkinson earned her first save of the year.

Maddy Meierer moved to 6-1 this season in the circle with the win in game two.

Camryn Casey went 3-4 from the plate on Friday, scoring two runs and finishing with an RBI. Karli Facklam also had a strong day at the plate, going 4-7 with two RBIs and a run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first inning, the Valor plated three runs in the the second. Riley Johannes singled and scored on a sacrifice bunt from Danielle Cutbirth and single from Karli Facklam. Lauren Dill worked a walk and Facklam scored on a Camryn Casey double. A Kenna Mayfield sacrifice fly scored Dill, making it a 3-0 ballgame.

Neither team scored again until the fifth inning when Ellie Facklam and Karlie Romines both singled to open the inning. A Johannes single scored both Facklam and Romines, making it 5-0. Kristyn Ramos entered to run for Johannes and scored on a K. Facklam single to give EU a 6-0 lead.

After Casey doubled to open the sixth inning, a Mayfield single and Perkins ground out scored Camryn while Mayfield scored on an E. Facklam single to take an 8-0 lead.

Doane responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, forcing Madi Bentley to be taken out after a strong starting performance. Sarah Wilkinson stranded the Doane runners and shut down the Tigers in the seventh inning, as EU took an 8-3 win in game one.

Hastings and Evangel played a scoreless first three innings on Friday until the Valor put up a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Cutbirth worked a walk and scored on a K. Facklam to put EU ahead, 1-0, in the fourth inning.

Casey and Mayfield both singled and came around to score on a Romines double, giving the Valor a 3-0 lead.

Meierer kept the Hastings offense from scoring, as EU took a 3-0 win in game two.

Evangel will conclude the Grand Slam classic on Saturday (Mar. 8) afternoon, taking on Mount Marty and Culver-Stockton, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
