HILLSBORO, Kan. – Valor Softball hit the road on Saturday (Mar. 29) afternoon, taking on the Tabor College Bluejays in their second consecutive road series of the year.

Game one proved to be another pitching duel, with Maddy Meierer nearly unhittable, allowing just one hit on Saturday with the Valor doing just enough offensively to take a 1-0 win in game one. In game two, the Evangel bats exploded early, scoring nine runs in the finale and taking a 9-0 win with Madi Bentley shutting out the Bluejays.

NOTABLE

  • Maddy Meierer earned the win in game one, moving to 14-2 on the season and lowering her ERA to 1.07 this season.

  • Madi Bentley took win number eight of the season in game two, allowing just one hit in the 9-0 victory.

  • Ellie Facklam led Evangel with three RBIs on Saturday.

  • Kenna Mayfield went 4-7 to lead EU at the plate against Tabor.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Neither team mustered much offense in game one, as the Valor were able to get a pair of runners in scoring position in the third inning with just one out, but could not capitalize.

  • Kenna Mayfield singled to open the sixth inning and used her exceptional baserunning skills to steal second base. Mayfield advanced to third on a fly out and scored on a wild pitch, giving EU a 1-0 lead.

  • The one run proved to be enough as Maddy Meierer and the Valor defense closed the door on the Bluejays, taking a 1-0 win in game one.

  • In game two, the Valor offense got started early, as Mayfield, Naomi Perkins, Ellie Facklam, and Riley Johannes all singled, scoring Mayfield and Perkins. A Tabor error allowed E. Facklam to score, giving EU a 3-0 lead.

  • In the second inning, Danielle Cutbirth, Mayfield, Perkins, and E. Facklam all singled, scoring Cutbirth and Mayfield in the inning. Karlie Romines hit a sacrifice fly to score Perkins, making it a 6-0 Valor lead.

  • Camryn Casey and Mayfield both scored in the third inning on singles to push the Valor lead out to 8-0.

  • Romines hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to solidify Evangel's 9-0 victory in game two.

QUOTABLE

"Today was a fun day at the ballpark. We have incredible young ladies and we are blessed when we know and remember who we are out there playing for. It's so great to be a part of this ministry to reach others on the ball field. In game one, we eventually put ourselves in a position to score a run in the sixth and we made it stand up," head coach Jay Halbrook stated. "In game two, we came out and scored six in the first two innings and we kept applying pressure. Our pitching today was strong and we played some good defense. We feel really good about where we are offensively and it's fun watching this team adapt and overcome. They earned some Andy's today!"
