NOTABLE

  • Bodie Smith earned her first collegiate win against the Pioneers, moving to 1-1 on the season.

  • Madi Bentley earned her second win of the year against Mission, moving to 2-1 on the year.

  • Camryn Casey batted 4-5 on Tuesday, recording four runs and a pair of RBIs in the wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Evangel opened scoring against Crowley's Ridge in the top of the second inning, using a single from Karlie Romines, double from Karli Facklam, single from Danielle Cutbirth, and a double from Camryn Casey to make it a 3-0 game.

  • The Valor scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning after Casey hit her second double of the afternoon, followed by a single from Kenna Mayfield. Naomi Perkins ripped a triple to center field, while Ellie Facklam doubled to score Perkins. A Romines single scored Facklam to give EU a 7-0 lead.

  • Bodie Smith carried a no hitter into the fourth inning, but Crowley's Ridge found a hit, their only one of the matchup.

  • Evangel wrapped up their scoring in the fifth inning, putting up four runs to run rule the Pioneers, 11-0. After Cutbirth worked a walk, she would score on a Reagan Jenkins double. Kristyn Ramos ran for Jenkins and scored on a sacrifice fly from Marli Perkins, while Casey worked a walk. Katie Harper worked a walk to add an extra runner on base while both Harper and Casey scored on a Riley Johannes double to solidify the 11-0 game.

  • In EU's matchup with Mission, the Patriots scored first, taking an early 1-0 lead.

  • EU tied the game at 1-1 after Ellie Facklam singled and scored on a Johannes single.

  • Neither team scored again until the bottom of the fifth when EU took the 2-1 lead as a single from Perkins scored Casey who had gotten on via a single.

  • In the bottom of the sixth, Cutbirth worked a walk and Casey drove Danielle in to give the Valor a 3-1 lead. A Mayfield single scored Casey, giving EU their final 4-1 lead.

  • Madi Bentley shut down the Patriots, as the Valor took a 4-1 win.

QUOTABLE

"What a great pair of days for softball. I thought we had strong pitching in all four of our matchups, allowing just one run the entire weekend and had some opportunities to get our offense rolling, scoring 24 combined runs over four games," head coach Jay Halbrook stated. "I'm proud of our ladies and am excited to open play at home this weekend!"

UP NEXT

Evangel will take on Central Baptist on Saturday (Mar. 1) afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at home for a doubleheader.
