SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Evangel returned home on Saturday (Dec. 6) afternoon, hosting the Bethel College Threshers in a KCAC matchup, looking to earn their seventh consecutive win. The Valor would force 24 Thresher turnovers and score 102 points in a 21-point victory, 102-81.
Bethel would jump out to an early 6-0 lead in the first half, but the Valor responded with a 9-3 run of their own to tie the game at 9-9. The Threshers re-extended their lead to four points on a pair of occasions in the first quarter, but a three pointer from Carson Dillard and free throws from Alyssa McCarty gave EU their first lead of the afternoon, 21-18, to close out the period.
Both teams played a tightly contested second quarter, as Evangel maintained a small lead for the majority of play. Consistent scoring from the Valor, as seven different players added to the total, would help Evangel extend their lead late in the quarter, taking an 11-point lead into the break, 45-34.
Another tightly contested quarter where each team scored 27 points forced Bethel to need to make a comeback in the final quarter. Dillard and Cassidy Hambelton led Evangel's charge in the period, both scoring six points, as EU led 72-61.
The Valor scored 30 points in the final quarter of play, taking their largest lead of the evening on their final basket of play from Brooklyn Kearbey, taking a 21-point win, 102-81, against Bethel.
