MARYVILLE, Mo. – Valor Track and Field opened their indoor season on Saturday, December 6th, taking part in the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic, hosted by NW Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri. Looking to open the season on a high note, Evangel would compete well, earning a pair of national qualifiers as Delaney Miller hit the NAIA "A" standard in the high jump and April Phillips hit the NAIA "B" standard in the triple jump.
Miller and Phillips led the Valor on Saturday, as Miller hit a high jump of 1.70 meters to hit the "A" standard and Phillips recorded a triple jump of 11.82 meters to hit the "B" standard, both qualifying for nationals in her first meet. Abby Beets also performed well, placing first over in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.37 meters.
On the men's side, Ethan Smith placed third overall in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:30.05, breaking his own school record, while Peyton Ligon also placed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.98 meters, to lead the Valor men.
