Evangel Women's Soccer Close Regular Season with 1-0 Road Victory

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Valor Women's Soccer hit the road on Saturday (Nov. 1) evening, taking on the Tabor College Bluejays in their regular season finale. Evangel dominated offensively on Saturday, out-shooting Tabor 19-11, and scoring an Anna Crain goal to give EU a 1-0 victory,

Evangel recorded several shots on goal in the first half, with McKenzie Calhoun, Amaura Austell, and Anna Crain all putting forth a barrage of shots in the 41st and 42nd minute, but the Tabor goalkeeper would record saves on each shot, as both teams were scoreless at the halftime break.

The Valor were able to put several shots on goal in the second half and at the 64:57 mark, Faith Joe used a free kick in the box that Emma Budimlya passed to Anna Crain for the first goal of the evening, giving EU a 1-0 lead. The Evangel defense held strong the remainder of the match, 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Anna Crain scored her third goal of the season in the win over Tabor, while Emma Budimlya recorded her first assist of the year.

  • Rylee Clapp earned the clean sheet and recorded seven saves in the shutout victory.

QUOTABLE

"What an amazing match tonight. We worked on some things this past week to create more chances and the ladies absolutely did that tonight. We were so connected when we were in possession and we worked so hard when we were defending," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "The energy on the field was impressive!! I am so proud of these ladies - they absolutely earned this win and now we will come right back here (to Tabor) on Wednesday night!!"

Valor Women's Soccer will take on the Tabor College Bluejays in the KCAC Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday (Nov. 5) evening at a time to be announced in Hillsboro, Kansas.
