OTTAWA, Kan. – Valor Women's Soccer hit the road on Wednesday (Oct. 8) evening, taking on the Ottawa Braves, looking to build off a road victory last Saturday. Evangel would dominate on Wednesday offensively, but couldn't get the ball in the back of the net, as an early Ottawa score proved to be the difference, as EU fell 1-0.
Faith Joe and Anna Crain would both record shots to open the game on Wednesday, but Ottawa would be awarded a penalty shot at the 19:27 mark after a handball was called in the box. Rylee Clapp would stop the penalty shot, but the Braves were able to score on the rebound, taking a 1-0 lead over EU. Amaura Austell and Rylie Kidman put shots on goal to close the half, but the Valor could not break through, trailing 1-0 at the halftime break.
The Valor would again dominate offensively, outshooting Ottawa 8-2 in the period, with several shots from McKenzie Calhoun and Crain, but the Ottawa defense consistently earned stops as EU could not break through. Calhoun would earn a chance with just over five minutes remaining, but could not capitalize, as EU ultimately fell, 1-0.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTABLE
"Tonight was another instance where we played an incredible soccer match, controlled play, created chances, but didn't get the result. We honestly put ourselves in a position to win but didn't find the back of their net. Overall, I am quite pleased with how we played, we defended so well - limiting them to just four shots, with one being the penalty," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "We created a number of chances and outshot them by quite a margin. Now in matches like this we just need to turn our chances into goals. I am excited about the level of our play this evening, just hate the result for the ladies."Â
