SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Women's Soccer honored their seniors and hosted the Bethel College Threshers on Saturday (Oct. 25) afternoon, looking to bounce back after a tough road loss on Wednesday to a solid Friends squad. Evangel would score a pair of goals in fulltime and shut out the Threshers, taking a 2-0 win in their penultimate home game of the season.

Evangel scored early on Saturday, as Faith Joe found McKenzie Calhoun, on a free kick, who broke past the back line and scored to give the Valor a 1-0 lead. Bethel would outshoot Evangel in the first half, but the Valor defense kept the Threshers off the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Valor offense ramped up in the second half, recording several more shots than Bethel, as Emma Budimlya scored the second goal of the game at the 55:37 mark, as LoriAnn McClellan crossed the ball to the junior for the score. Rylee Clapp and the Valor defense kept Bethel off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, as EU earned another three points in the conference standings, taking a 2-0 victory over the Threshers.

HIGHLIGHTS

QUOTABLE

"What a wonderful senior day result!! I felt we played well in the first half, but our level in that second half was so much better! We created a number of solid scoring chances and scored two brilliant goals," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "Once again we defended so well collectively and limited their chances. I love that we earned our sixth shutout of the season!! I'm proud of how we played today and very proud of the seven seniors we honored this afternoon. I am indeed blessed to have shared in their journey!"
