KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Evangel Football traveled to Kansas City on Saturday (Oct. 25) afternoon to take on the Avila Eagles, looking to add another win in Kessinger divisional play. The Valor took care of business on Saturday, earning a 58-0 road victory to move to 6-2 on the season. With the win, head coach Chuck Hepola passed Keith Barefield for the most wins as a head football coach at Evangel, currently sitting at 67.

After Evangel shut down the Avila offense, the Valor drove the length of the field and Reid Potts threw a touchdown pass to Cameron Harris, pushing EU ahead 7-0.

Neither team would do anything offensively for the remainder of the first quarter, but Kenneth Spring would come around on a blitz and sack the Avila quarterback, forcing a fumble that Kolton Banks jumped on in the endzone, giving EU a 14-0 lead.

With 8:44 remaining in the second quarter, Evangel regained possession and took off over six minutes on the clock, driving down field to score on a Potts pass to Drew Ripko, extending the lead to 21-0.

After forcing another Avila punt, Potts found Broc Lyle deep for a 49-yard reception with under a minute remaining, helping set Cody Voysey up for a 29 yard field goal before the halftime break, as the Valor led 24-0 over Avila.

Eric Williams II would break loose for a 37-yard score in the third quarter, while James Dowdy added an 11-yard touchdown reception to the Evangel total, as the Valor lead 38-0 at the end of the third quarter.

Cameron Harris, Donnie Wilkes, and Kyle Cummings all rushed for touchdowns in the final quarter of play, giving Evangel their 58 point lead, as the Valor defense continued their big day, forcing additional punts to solidify EU's 58-0 victory on Saturday.

Zach Myers led Evangel with eight tackles, while Kenneth Spring finished with a team high four tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble that led to a touchdown. The Valor defense accumulated 12 tackles for loss on Saturday and forced the Avila offense to finish with negative seven rushing yards.

Offensively, Reid Potts finished his day with 244 passing yards and four touchdown passes, while Broc Lyle led all receivers with 93 yards receiving. Eric Williams II finished his afternoon with 88 yards on the ground to lead all rushers.
