Location: Wichita, Kan. (Adair-Austin Stadium)

WICHITA, Kan. – Valor Women's Soccer concluded their road trip on Wednesday (Oct. 22) night, taking on the Friends Falcons in Wichita. Despite playing well overall and earning several saves defensively, a goal just before the halftime break proved to be the difference, as EU came up just short, 1-0, on Wednesday.

Evangel and Friends played a tightly contested first half, as neither team could score, with Friends missing shots and the Valor defense earning several saves. At the 38:30 mark, Friends broke through on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead over Evangel. EU could not record a shot in the first half, trailing 1-0 at the halftime break.

Amaura Austell nearly tied the game up in the second half, recording Evangel's first shot of the game, but the Friends keeper was able to record the save, keeping EU off the scoreboard. Ava Campbell was also able to record a shot in the second half, but her shot ended up high of the goal, as EU could not record any additional offense in the game, but were able to hold the Falcons offense scoreless in the second half, falling 1-0 in full time.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Rylee Clapp finished Wednesday with nine saves in goal.

QUOTABLE

"What an incredible soccer match this evening. While we weren't able to break through for a goal, we can be proud of how connected we played. We got a few chances in that second half to equalize but just weren't able to do so," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "Friends moved the ball so well and I am proud of how we dealt with their level of play. Even in the loss, we played one of our best games of the season!! I am so excited to celebrate our seniors this Saturday!!"
