STERLING, Kan. – Valor Men's Soccer hit the road on Friday, taking on the Sterling College Warriors. With several key injuries on the defensive side of the ball, Evangel battled and held a late lead, but two goals in the final 14 minutes of Friday's contest forced EU to fall, 2-1.
Evangel scored early on Friday, as Vasco Goncalves was able to find Hayes Van Breusegen, who scored his fifth goal of the season at the 7:26 mark. The Valor were able to put four additional shots in the period on goal, but were unable to extend their lead, holding a 1-0 advantage at the halftime break.
The Valor were able to continue to hold Sterling off the scoreboard early in the second half, recording several shots, all of which were unable to reach the back of the net. With limited players remaining defensively, Evangel continued to fight, but Sterling would find the equalizer with just under 15 minutes left in play. Davide Marzoli was able to record several saves in goal in the period, but again, Sterling would find the back of the net with just 1:36 left in the game, as the depleted back line gave up a late score, ultimately falling 2-1 in fulltime.
