SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer played host to the York Panthers on Saturday (Oct. 11) afternoon, looking to bounce back after a road loss to a solid Ottawa squad. Knowing they were up against another top squad in the KCAC, the Valor were able to score early, nearly holding the lead for the remainder of the match, until a late score from York forced both teams to take a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
York had much of the offensive pressure early on Saturday, but Hayes Van Breusegen was able to score on Evangel's second shot of the afternoon on a pass from Ethan Gilliam, giving EU a 1-0 lead over York at the 12:07 mark. Both teams continued to fight in the first half, as each team recorded five shots in the period, with Evangel leading 1-0 at the halftime break.
Vasco Goncalves opened the second half with one of the best opportunities of the afternoon, but shot high, keeping the score 1-0. Andrea Fincato nearly scored just moments later, but the York offense responded with a pair of shots on goal. Most of York's shots in the period weren't on goal, but with just over 11 minutes remaining, York was able to score the equalizer, making it a 1-1 ballgame. Both York and Evangel were able to record just one additional shot in the game, as neither attempt was much of a challenge for either defense, forcing both teams to take a 1-1 draw in full time.
