LINDSBORG, Kan. – Valor Men's Soccer concluded their road trip on Saturday (Sept. 28) evening, traveling to Lindsborg, Kansas, to take on the Bethany College Swedes. Looking for a bounce back win, the Valor scored a trio of goals and held the home team off the scoreboard, taking a strong 3-0 victory on Saturday.
Evangel came out firing to open Saturday's game, consistently getting shots on goal from different players. The Valor offense kept Bethany's defense on their heels and on a nice ball that deflected off a Swede defender, Evangel's Rem Harmsworth took a shot that scored, putting Evangel up 1-0 in the first 14 minutes of Saturday's match. Just three minutes later, an Evangel attacker was fouled in the box, awarding a penalty shot to Andrea Fincato, who scored his fifth goal of the year to put the Valor ahead, 2-0. Evangel recorded several strong opportunities over the final half of the first half, but none went past the Bethany goalie, as EU took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Evangel's offense was led by Moritz Hofmeyer to open the second half, as the young freshman consistently put shots on goal. At the 59:50 mark, Hofmeyer broke through the Bethany defense, scoring his first goal of the year to put Evangel up 3-0. The Valor consistently found more opportunities, but several of their shots in the second half hit off the crossbar or were stopped by strong saves, keeping the Valor from adding on to their lead. The Evangel defense continued their strong play from the first half, earning a shutout win on Saturday, 3-0, in full time.

QUOTABLE
"The team played consistently and our defense was solid for us. We created so many opportunities that we needed to create which will ultimately help us as we learn more about our team's quality. We have grown more as a team in every game and this one was very important for us as well," Men's Soccer Head Coach Kyle Beard stated. "I'm proud of the team for fighting through missing four starters and stepping up to keeping the standard. Ted was really special tonight leading the defense and Moritz scored a beautiful first goal of the season."
