Valor Men's Soccer Comes up Just Short in 1-0 Loss to Tabor

The Basics

Score: Evangel 0, Tabor 1 | Box Score

Location: Springfield, Mo. (Coryell Field)

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer returned home on Saturday (Oct. 5) evening, looking to take down the Tabor College Bluejays, after earning a strong 3-0 win over Bethany last weekend. Despite multiple strong attempts at shots on goal, the Valor came up just short in Saturday's match, falling 1-0.

Evangel and Tabor fought in an evenly matched first half, as neither team could get much offense going. The Valor had a pair of strong chances as Andrea Fincato nearly scored on a header at the 11:37 mark and Lucas Arias fired a strike that the Tabor keeper stopped. Eneh Chibuzor nearly also had the first goal of the game in the first half, but his shot was again stopped by the keeper. Tabor had just two shots for the majority of half #1, but with less than five minutes remaining before halftime, the Bluejays got on the board, scoring on a run that just barely stayed onside, giving Tabor a 1-0 lead at halftime.

As the Valor offense ramped up in the second half, so did the physicality between both sides. Evangel worked hard to generate chances to find an equalizer while Tabor did everything in their power to keep the Valor off the board. In the 66th minute, Evangel's Chibuzor had a pair of chances that could have tied the game up, but both shots were saved by the Tabor goalkeeper. Evangel fought the rest of the way, continuing to create chances, but none after Chibuzor's finished on goal, as EU fell, 1-0.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • This is just Evangel's first game this season being held scoreless.

  • Eneh Chibuzor led the charge for Evangel, finishing with four total shots.

  • Ryan Garner allowed just his second goal of the season in the loss.
