WICHITA, Kan. – Valor Men's Soccer continued their travels on Wednesday (Sept. 25) evening, taking on the Friends Falcons in search of their fourth consecutive victory of the season. Despite scoring a goal midway through the first half, the Valor could not stop a pair of goals from the Falcons in the second half, falling 2-1, their first loss of the 2024 season.
Still without starting goalkeeper Ryan Garner, the Valor defense stood tall, not allowing a goal in the first half. At the 30:25 mark of the first half, Rem Harmsworth made a flurry of moves through several defenders and took a shot that found the back of the bottom left corner of the net, giving Evangel a 1-0 lead over the Falcons that they took into the halftime break.
The Valor nearly took a 2-0 lead over Friends when Akari Sydney took a shot that required a keeper save to keep from scoring. Friends responded to the Valor attack by scoring their first goal of the match on a pair of headers, making it a 1-1 ballgame. At the 67:45 mark, the Valor took their final shot of the game, a Lucas Arias shot that went wide of the goal. The Falcons were able to capture the lead at the 73:48 mark on a throw-in that found an open man, making it a 2-1 game. Although the Valor offense would try to generate additional offense in the final 16 minutes of the match, Evangel could not break through, taking their first loss of the 2024 season on the road, 2-1.
