SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel Valor football team hits the road after their game last week against Saint Mary was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Valor will travel to Ottawa, Kan., on Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon to take on the Ottawa Braves at 3:00 p.m.

Evangel ninth-year head coach Chuck Hepola enters Saturday's contest with a 56-31 overall record, the second most wins by a football head coach at Evangel, just 10 wins behind Keith Barefield (66).

Evangel was picked to finish tied for first in the Kessinger Division coaches poll, but were the lone first place choice in the media poll by a single vote. In the Bissell, Kansas Wesleyan was picked over last year's division champ, Ottawa.

The Valor dropped to #17 overall in the latest edition of the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Rating. The Valor began the season at #14, but dropped despite winning their first two games of the season, one of which against previously ranked #24 Kansas Wesleyan. In the KCAC, Friends is ranked #21, followed by Southwestern who dropped after winning 42-0 last week, currently at #25.

Evangel and Ottawa meet for the second time in program history. Last season, Evangel took a 27-21 win at home against the Braves.

Reid Potts has continued to play well as the new man under center for Evangel. Potts currently has thrown for 624 yards this season.

Bradley Myers leads the Valor defensively, currently with 35 total tackles this season.

Zach Myers has two sacks so far this season to lead the Valor.

Eric Williams leads the Valor in rushing this year, racking up 314 rushing yards while averaging 6.2 yards per rush.

Broc Lyle has been consistent for the Valor receiving corps, leading the team with 248 receiving yards and four touchdowns so far this season.

The Valor offense currently averages the 28th most points per game in the nation, scoring an average of 35.3 points per game.

Evangel's discipline has shown so far this season, currently with only 15 penalties this season, one of the lowest amounts in the nation.

The Valor hold a 257-230-3 all-time record in their 47 years as a collegiate team.
