STERLING, Kan. – Another strong second-half performance helped propel the 16th ranked Evangel University football team to a 38-14 victory over Sterling on Saturday (Sept. 14) night.

Evangel stayed perfect, moving to 3-0 and extending their KCAC win streak to 14-straight games. The Warriors remain winless, moving to 0-3 so far this season.

Sterling drove the ball down the majority of the field on their first drive, but Riley Childs would strip the ball from a Warrior ball carrier, giving the Valor possession. On the following play, Eric Williams took a handoff to the house, running 79 yards for the score.

After Sterling lost possession, Evangel drove nearly the length of the field, having to settle for a field goal from Jonah Edwards to push the lead out to 10-0.

The Warriors were able to hit a big play, throwing an 83 yard touchdown pass to dwindle the Valor lead to just three, 10-7 in the second quarter. Evangel turned the ball over on an interception and Sterling drove the field to take a 14-10 lead over EU.

Evangel was able to end the quarter with a six minute drive that resulted in a touchdown for Broc Lyle, giving the Valor a 17-14 halftime lead. The Valor successfully pulled off the two-for-one, scoring on their first drive in the second half after Eric Williams reeled in a screen pass from Reid Potts, pushing EU ahead, 24-14.

The Valor defense was able to bear down on the Sterling offense, not allowing a single point in the second half. With just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, Eric Williams found a hole and took a 30-yard rush to the house, making it a 32-14 game after Dawson Mock ran in a two point conversion.

Evangel solidified their win midway through the fourth quarter, when Potts found Mock in the back right corner of the endzone on fourth and goal, putting the Valor at a 38-14 lead they held to the end.

The Valor racked up 465 yards of offense, including 222 yards from scrimmage for Eric Williams (180 rushing, 42 receiving yards).

Bradley Myers finished with a game-high nine tackles, adding 1.5 tackles for a loss. Riley Childs added six tackles and forced a fumble in the first quarter.
