SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Softball returned to action on Saturday (Mar. 9) afternoon, taking on the Williams Baptist Eagles in their first doubleheader at their home field.
Mistakes would hurt the Valor in game one, as seven errors on Evangel would cause the Valor to fall, 4-1, in seven innings. In game two, Maddy Meierer would allow just two hits as the Evangel defense shut down the Eagles, en route to a 1-0 shutout victory and split with Williams Baptist.

Evangel struggled offensively, hitting just a .187 batting average combined on Saturday.

Meierer earned her third win of the season in game two on Saturday.

Karlie Romines went 2-3 in game one to lead Evangel.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Williams Baptist scored a pair of runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead, capitalizing on an Evangel error to score the runs.

Evangel responded in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own, scoring on a double play groundout after Megan Stone reached on a single to open the inning, 2-1.Â

The Valor gave up a run in the fourth and fifth inning, as WBU took a 4-1 lead over Evangel.

Unfortunately, the Valor went cold offensively. In the bottom of the seventh, the Valor would load the bases for a chance to tie the game up, but came up short, falling 4-1 to the Eagles in game one.

In game two, Maddy Meierer would not be denied in the circle, shutting down the Eagles offensively. In the third inning, Danielle Cutbirth singled and scored on a Kenna Mayfield single to take a 1-0 lead.

Evangel's one run lead would be more than enough for Evangel, as Meierer was nearly untouchable, allowing just two hits in Evangel's 1-0 win over the Eagles.

Evangel will travel to Winfield, Kansas, to take on the Southwestern College Moundbuilders on Tuesday (Mar. 12) afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
