WINFIELD, Kan. – Valor Softball hit the road on Tuesday (Mar. 12) afternoon to open conference play, taking on the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in Winfield, Kansas.
Evangel's offense showed up in a big way on Tuesday, scoring 10 runs in both games, taking a 10-1 mercy rule in five innings of play in game one, and a 10-4 comeback victory in game two to complete the sweep of Southwestern College.

Sarah Wilkinson earned her third win of the season in the circle in game two, while Ashland Diggs took her second.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel scored five runs in the bottom of the first of Tuesday's first game. A Megan Stone walk was followed by a Daizie Riggs single. Both Stone and Riggs stole their next respective bases. Karlie Romines worked a walk and Annslee Leeviraphan was also able to force a walk to score the first run of the game. Naomi Perkins hit a double to right field to score Romines and Diggs, while a Phoebe Gardner single scored both Leeviraphan and Perkins to make it a 5-0 Evangel lead in the bottom of the first.

Megan Stone earned a walk in the second inning and scored on a Daizie Riggs sacrifice fly to make it a 6-0 Valor lead.Â

In the top of the third, Naomi Perkins displayed a burst of speed, scoring an inside the park home run to put Evangel ahead, 7-0.

Southwestern would score a run in the bottom of the third to make it a 7-1 game, but Evangel would generate enough offense in the fifth inning to force the mercy rule. Ellie Facklam doubled and stole third, scoring on a Karlie Romines double to center field. Annslee Leeviraphan singled and a Naomi Perkins sacrifice fly scored Keeley Aaron, who came in to run for Romines. A Phoebe Gardner single scored Leeviraphan, solidifying the Evangel win in game one, 10-1.

In game two, Southwestern would jump on the Valor early, scoring four runs to take an early 4-0 lead over Evangel.

The Valor would respond with four runs of their own in the third inning, tying the game up at 4-4. Kenna Mayfield and Riley Johannes would both hit singles and come around to score on a Daizie Riggs double to center field. A Karlie Romines single scored Riggs and an Annslee Leeviraphan double scored Romines to make the 4-4 tie.

In the fifth inning, Riley Johannes worked a walk to begin the frame, and Keeley Aaron entered to run. Aaron would come around to score on a Daizie Riggs triple. Karlie Romines would hit a sacrifice fly to score Riggs, making it a 6-4 Evangel lead.

Dakota Hale singled and advanced all the way to third on an error, scoring on a Megan Stone groundout. After Riley Johannes singled, Autumn Nold entered to run, scoring on a Daizie Riggs double. Kristyn Ramos came in the game to run for Riggs, scoring on a Karlie Romines double, while Annslee Leeviraphan would cap off scoring, hitting a single to drive in Romines, making it a 10-4 game that the Valor would take, completing the sweep of Southwestern.

Evangel will return home and honor their seniors on Saturday (Mar. 16) afternoon, taking on the Bethany Swedes at 1:00 p.m. at University Field.
