SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Softball concluded their six game home stand on Saturday (Mar. 30) afternoon, taking on the Tabor Bluejays in search of a doubleheader sweep to push to double digit wins in conference play.
Evangel took an early 2-0 lead over Tabor in game one, but the Bluejays forced extras and earned the comeback win over the Valor in the first match of the afternoon, 5-2, in eight innings of play. Maddy Meierer continued her strong freshman campaign from the circle in game two, holding the Bluejays scoreless in a 3-0 win and split for Evangel on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third of game one. A Phoebe Gardner single was followed by singles from Kenna Mayfield and Annslee Leeviraphan to score Gardner, making it a 1-0 game. An Ellie Facklam ground out scored Mayfield, giving EU a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth and sixth innings, Tabor scored a run each, tying the game up as Evangel was unable to score any insurance runs, forcing the game to extra innings.

Tabor pushed across three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-2 lead over EU. The Valor bats continued their struggle in the final half of the inning as EU could not push a run across, falling 5-2 in game one.

Both defenses held each team scoreless through the first three innings of game two. The Valor offense generated offensive pressure in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-0 lead. Karlie Romines singled to center field to open the inning, followed by a Megan Stone double to center field. A Lauren Dill groundout scored Romines, making it a 1-0 game. Naomi Perkins singled through the left side of the infield to score Stone, giving EU a 2-0 lead. A Dakota Hale single advanced Perkins to second and a Kenna Mayfield single to right field scored Perkins to push the Valor out to a 3-0 lead.

The 3-0 lead from the Valor proved to be enough as Maddy Meierer and the Valor defense allowed just one hit after the fourth inning, taking a 3-0 win and split with Tabor.
