SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A late rally in game one came up just short as the Evangel baseball team dropped a KCAC double-header to Ottawa, 8-5 in game one and 6-0, in game two on Saturday afternoon.

A three-run rally in game one's nine inning contest allowed the Valor to get within striking distance. However, a ground out would leave a pair on the bases and the tying run at the plate.

Game two saw the Evangel offense fall silent managing only two hits. The Braves got a complete game effort on the mound, while the Valor were held scoreless.

NOTABLE
  • Matthew Olson went 3 for 3 at the plate with a walk and scored a run in game one. Taylor McLeod and Levi Loughridge both added a pair of hits each in the loss.
  • Riley Mitchell continued his hot start to the season with a hit in each game. Mitchell added two RBIs in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED Game 1
  • Evangel and Ottawa both scored in the opening frame with the Valor taking a 2-1 lead on an Eli Cook single.
  • Ottawa answered with a run in the second, two in the third and one more in the fourth to build a 5-2 lead.
  • The Braves got insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
  • Mitchell doubled home the first two runs in the ninth inning to pull within 8-4.
  • McLeod picked up his second hit on an infield single that scored Mitchell before being left on base.
  • Cooper Wilken threw five innings of relief for Evangel allowing just two runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED Game 2
  • Game two starting pitchers locked in through the first three innings keeping both teams scoreless.
  • Ottawa scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead, which proved to be enough.
  • The Braves scored three more in the top of the seventh inning to seal the victory.
  • Isaac Daley threw five innings and scattered five hits. He allowed two earned runs and struck out six.
