OTTAWA, Kan. – Valor Softball hit the road to take on the 23rd ranked Ottawa Braves on Wednesday (Mar. 20) afternoon, looking to take a pair of wins against the nationally ranked Braves squad.
Evangel used a stout defense and strong pitching in game one, allowing just five hits en route to a 3-0 shutout victory on the road. In game two, Evangel would take a early 4-0 lead, but the Braves would find their offense, scoring nine runs in the final three innings to take a 9-4 win and split.
HIGHLIGHTS

Riley Johannes led the Valor in game one, hitting a double in the 2nd and a single in the 7th, scoring all three runs for EU.

Madi Bentley had a strong game in the circle, earning her second win of the season in game one.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Megan Stone was hit by a pitch in the second inning, advancing to third on a Naomi Perkins single with both scoring on a Riley Johannes double, taking a 2-0 lead.

After locking down the Braves through six innings, Evangel scored another run after Karlie Romines hit a double and scored on a Riley Johannes single to take a 3-0 lead. Madi Bentley shut the door on the Braves en route to EU's 3-0 win.

In game two, the Valor would score three runs in the third inning. Kenna Mayfield would open the inning with a bunt single and score on a Annslee Leeviraphan bunt and Ottawa error. Leeviraphan scored on a Autumn Nold bunt and Karlie Romines hit a solo home run to give EU a 3-0 lead.

After Kenna Mayfield singled in the top of the fourth, Annslee Leeviraphan would double to score Mayfield, putting the Valor ahead, 4-0.

The Braves offense would wake up offensively, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth and five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-4 lead that EU could not overcome, leading to the split on Wednesday.
