WICHITA, Kan. – Valor Baseball took on the Friends Falcons in a single nine-inning matchup on Tuesday (Mar. 19) afternoon, looking to bounce back in a big way.
Evangel's offense was able to dominate, generating 21 hits on offense and scoring 17 runs en route to a large 17-8 victory over the Friends Falcons and earning their twelfth win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel used a big first inning to take an early lead. Isaac Miller opened the inning with a single to center field, followed by a Riley Mitchell sacrifice bunt to advance Miller to second base. Taylor McLeod got on base via an error, advancing Miller to third and Miller scored on a Levi Loughridge single. Brooks Espy would single to load the bases and a Eli Cook single would score McLeod, while a Carson Sturdefant double would score Loughridge and Espy. Cook would come around to score on an Arly Miller ground out to take a 5-0 lead.

Friends responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to make it a 5-3 game.

The Valor would once again score several runs in the following inning. Isaac Miller singled and advanced to third after Riley Mitchell and Taylor McLeod both worked a pair of walks. Brooks Espy would single to left field to score Miller and Mitchell, while a Carson Sturdefant single scored McLeod to make it an 8-3 game.

The Falcons would score a run in the bottom of the fourth, making it an 8-4 game.

In the top of the fifth, Eli Cook opened the inning with a single to left field, coming around to score on a Matthew Olson double to left field, making it a 9-4 game.

Evangel and Friends both scored a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth inning, Taylor McLeod singled and scored on a Levi Loughridge homer to left field. In the seventh inning, Matthew Olson would single and Isaac Miller would be hit by a pitch, both scoring on a Levi Loughridge single to right field. At the end of the seventh inning, Evangel led, 13-8.

In the eighth inning, the Valor added a run. Jeremiah Leaming singled to center field and advanced to third after Matthew Olson and Isaac Miller both worked walks. A Riley Mitchell sacrifice fly scored Leaming, making it a 14-8 game.

Evangel would not finish scoring, putting up three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Levi Loughridge would hit a single to right field and a Brooks Espy walk would advance Loughridge to second. An Eli Cook sacrifice bunt advanced Loughridge and Espy up a base. Carson Sturdefant would drive in both runners on a three-run homer to center field, making it a 17-8 game, that the Valor would hold to the end.
