SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Softball returned home for their first conference home doubleheader of the season, hosting the Bethany College Swedes, looking to remain perfect in conference play as EU honored their seniors.

Evangel's offense showed up in a big way in game one, as the Valor scored 10 runs and put up a mercy rule win over Bethany, 10-1, in five innings. Game two was much more of a defensive matchup, as the Valor were able to take the win in a 1-0 victory.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evangel swung just a .200 bat at the plate on Saturday, as game one's offense carried the batting average.

  • Karlie Romines led the team with three RBIs on Saturday, all coming in game one.

  • Ashland Diggs earned her third win of the season in game one while Maddy Meierer earned her fifth.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bethany opened scoring on Saturday, hitting a first inning home run to take an early 1-0 lead over EU.

  • Evangel responded by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. Danielle Cutbirth worked a walk, followed by a Kenna Mayfield single. An error allowed Cutbirth to score, while a Daizie Riggs double scored both Ellie Facklam and Mayfield. After Karlie Romines worked a walk, Megan Stone hit a double to score Riggs, making it a 4-1 game. A Naomi Perkins fielders choice scored Romines and a Phoebe Gardner double capped off scoring for the Valor in the inning, scoring Stone and Perkins to make it 7-1.

  • Evangel scored another three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 10-1 game. Ellie Facklam reached on an error and Keeley Aaron entered to run. A Daizie Riggs single advanced Aaron to second base and Karlie Romines hit a deep home run to center field to give EU the 10-1 lead.

  • Ashland Diggs closed the door on the Swedes, solidifying the mercy rule 10-1 win in game one.

  • Game two was a defensive battle for the Valor. Maddy Meierer would shut the Bethany bats down, allowing just three hits in the entire game. Dakota Hale would single to open the bottom of the sixth and come around to score on a pair of singles from Kenna Mayfield and Ellie Facklam to give EU a 1-0 lead.

  • Bethany made noise in the seventh inning, recording back to back singles, but Meierer worked her way out of trouble to earn the complete game shutout, 1-0.
