Valor Softball Falls to Cottey on Saturday

NEVADA, Mo. – Valor Softball concluded their weekend road trip on Saturday (Feb. 24) afternoon, traveling just north of Springfield to take on the Cottey College Comets in a doubleheader.

After playing six games in six days, the Valor took on Cottey in game one, scoring three runs, but ultimately falling to the Comets, 9-3. In game two, the Valor reduced the amount of runs allowed from game one, but could not get on the scoreboard, as EU fell, 4-0.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evangel hit .174 combined on Saturday.

  • Karlie Romines added a home run to her season total in game one.

  • Danielle Cutbirth recorded three walks in game one.

  • The Evangel pitching staff struck out nine batters on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kenna Mayfield singled to open game one and came around to score on a Karlie Romines single to give the Valor a 1-0 lead. 

  • Cottey would respond by scoring a run in the first and four runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead over EU.

  • Karlie Romines would hit a solo shot to make it a 5-2 Cottey lead in the fourth inning.

  • Danielle Cutbirth walked, stole second, and scored on an Ellie Facklam double, making it just a 5-3 Cottey lead.

  • The Comets would score a combined four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 9-3 lead over Evangel that the Valor would not overcome.

  • In game two, the Valor would get just one runner into scoring position, trailing 2-0 in the top of the third, when Naomi Perkins singled and stole second base, but the Valor could not generate nearly any additional offense, ultimately falling, 4-0.

UP NEXT

Evangel will compete in Springfield next weekend (Mar. 2) at the Drury Classic at Meador Park. EU takes on Minnesota-Crookston at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday to open play.
