SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Softball took part in the Drury Softball Classic on Saturday (Mar. 2) afternoon, taking on NCAA D-II Minnesota-Crookston as well as Mission University, formerly Baptist Bible College.
The Valor would use a strong seventh inning to earn a comeback victory against NCAA D-II Minnesota Crookston in game one before using a strong offensive output in game two against Mission University, taking a 9-1 mercy rule win in five innings of play.

Evangel hit a strong .383 batting average combined on Saturday.

Karlie Romines added a home run to her season total against Minnesota-Crookston.

Maddy Meierer earned her third win of the season in the circle, using a complete game performance against Minnesota-Crookston to take the victory, throwing 158 pitches in the win.

The Evangel pitching staff struck out nine batters on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Minnesota-Crookston would score three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead over Evangel in game one.

Evangel would respond in the top of the second, as Daizie Riggs would work a walk and Karlie Romines would blast a two-run home run to left field that hit right off the top of the fence, making it a 3-2 game, in favor of Crookston.

Evangel would tie the game up in the top of the fourth. Annslee Leeviraphan would hit a double to left field and score on a Reagan Jenkins single down the right field line to make it 3-3.

Minnesota-Crookston would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth, 4-3.

The Valor would come alive in the final inning, scoring a pair of runs to take the lead, 5-4. Danielle Cutbirth would single and steal second, advancing to third on a Kenna Mayfield single. After Mayfield stole second, Cutbirth would score on a wild pitch. Naomi Perkins would hit a sacrifice fly to score Mayfield, giving EU a 5-4 lead.

Meierer would shut down Minnesota-Crookston in the bottom of the seventh, securing the win for EU, 5-4.

In game two, Evangel's Kenna Mayfield would open the game with a walk, followed by a Naomi Perkins single. Both runners would score on a Mission error, taking an early 2-0 lead.

Annslee Leeviraphan singled to open the bottom of the second, while Phoebe Gardner worked a walk. An error on Mission would score both Leeviraphan and Gardner to make it a 4-0 game. Kenna Mayfield would single to score Cutbirth and Mayfield would steal third and score on a passed ball to take a 6-0 Valor lead.

Mission would score a run in the fourth inning to make it a 6-1 game, but in the bottom of the fifth inning, Evangel would score three runs to earn the mercy rule win, 9-1. Lauren Dill and Annslee Leeviraphan would work a pair of walks and score on a Phoebe Gardner double. Gardner would score the walk-off run on a Danielle Cutbirth sacrifice fly, as EU took a 9-1 win.
