Valor Baseball Swept by #16 KWU on Saturday

Record: Evangel (6-8, 1-5), KWU (11-4, 5-1)

Location: Salina, Kan. (Dean Evans Stadium)

SALINA, Kan. – Valor Baseball concluded their three game series with nationally ranked #16 Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday (Feb. 24) afternoon with a doubleheader.

The Valor would struggle offensively in game one, while the Coyotes would use the long ball to take the victory over EU, 22-0. In game two, the Valor were able to take an early lead over the Coyotes, but a seven run spot in the fifth inning for KWU hurt the Valor, as they fell, 12-6.

NOTABLE

  • Evangel hit a combined .167 on Saturday afternoon.

  • Eli Cook hit .400 to lead the Valor from the plate on Saturday, recording a run scored in game two.

  • Evangel's pitching staff struck out 11 batters combined on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Evangel's Isaac Miller would open Saturday's game with a single, but the Valor would record just one more hit in the entirety of the game. 

  • The Valor would work a walk and use a HBP to get other runners on base, but ultimately fell to the Coyotes, 22-0.

  • Kansas Wesleyan would score three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead in game three, but the Valor would respond in the top of the second with five runs of their own. Levi Loughridge worked a walk, followed by an Eli Cook single. Carson Sturdefant singled to score Loughridge and a Matthew Olson single scored Cook. Arly Miller would work a walk to load the bases for EU, and an Isaac Miller groundout would score Sturdefant. Riley Mitchell cleared the bases with a triple, making it a 5-3 EU lead.

  • Levi Loughridge homered to open the top of the third inning to extend Evangel's lead to 6-3.

  • KWU would respond with nine unanswered runs in the remainder of the game, as EU's offense could not score any additional runs, as the Valor fell, 12-6.
