HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Evangel opened game one by scoring an early run. A Kenna Mayfield bunt single was followed by a Ellie Facklam single down the third base line. Daizie Riggs singled through the right side to load the bases and a Karlie Romines sacrifice fly gave EU a 1-0 lead after Mayfield scored.
-
Neither team would score in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th innings, but Evangel would score four runs in the top of the fifth. Annslee Leeviraphan, Naomi Perkins, and Megan Stone all singled to load the bases for Evangel. A Kenna Mayfield single scored both Leeviraphan and Perkins, with Mayfield getting caught out trying to stretch the hit into a double. Stone scored on a throwing error on the catcher, forced by Ellie Facklam stealing second. Keeley Aaron would enter the game to run for Facklam, eventually scoring on a Karlie Romines single, giving EU a 5-0 lead.
-
Central Baptist would answer with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning on Friday, but Maddy Meierer would slam the door on the Mustangs in the seventh, taking the complete game win over CBC, 5-4.
-
Evangel would keep their fans on their toes in game two, as the Valor trailed 3-0 heading into the final inning of play. EU would score four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead. Ellie Facklam was hit by a pitch, followed by a Karlie Romines single. Lauren Dill would triple down the right field line, scoring Facklam and Romines. After an Annslee Leeviraphan single and steal of second base, a throwing error on CBC scored both Dill and Leeviraphan, giving the Valor a 4-3 lead.
-
The Mustangs would force extras, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh, making it a 4-4 game.
-
With the international tie-breaker in effect, Naomi Perkins was placed on second base to open the eighth inning. Perkins and Megan Stone would take each others spots, as a double from Stone scored Perkins. Stone would then score on a Ellie Facklam single, and after a Daizie Riggs and Karlie Romines single to load the bases, Lauren Dill would work a bases loaded walk, making it a 7-4 Valor lead.
-
CBC would once again respond in the eighth, scoring three runs to force additional extra innings, 7-7.
-
The top of the 10th would provide the spark Evangel needed to overcome the Mustangs. After Kenna Mayfield was placed on second, due to the ITB, freshman Daizie Riggs continued her power surge to start her collegiate career, hitting a two-run home run to give EU a 9-7 lead.
-
The Mustangs would hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th, but Ashland Diggs shut down the CBC offense, giving EU a 9-8 win and sweep of the Mustangs.
