Valor Baseball Drops Matchup with #16 Kansas Wesleyan on Friday

SALINA, Kan. – Valor Baseball traveled to Salina, Kansas, on Friday (Feb. 23) afternoon to open a three-game conference road series against the nationally ranked #16 Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes.

The Valor would get on the board to open the ballgame, but 12 unanswered Coyote runs proved to be the difference, as EU fell in game one of the series, 12-1.

NOTABLE

  • Evangel hit .276 in the loss on Friday.

  • Riley Mitchell went 2-4 from the plate on Friday to lead the Valor in batting average.

  • Evangel's pitching staff struck out nine batters in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Evangel jumped on Kansas Wesleyan early, scoring a run before registering their first out of the game. An Isaac Miller double was followed by a Riley Mitchell single. Miller would score on a Taylor McLeod single to take a 1-0 lead.

  • The Coyotes would score six runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-1 lead in the game. 

  • The Valor would get four runners in scoring positions for the remainder of Friday's game, but could not score any additional runs, leaving the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, as EU ultimately fell, 12-1.
